Best MIFF shorts
See the best shorts of the festival at the red-carpet awards night on Friday 8 August 9pm at the fabulous Capitol Theatre.
The competition offers filmmakers from around the world the opportunity to compete for 13 awards, and an increased total cash and prize pool of almost $50,000 – the most prize money awarded in any shorts competition in Australia.
All Films screening are in Official Competition with the exception of films indicated.
- City of Melbourne Grand Prix for Best Short Film – $7000
- Melbourne Airport Emerging Australian Filmmaker – $5000 + airfare to Berlinale 2009
- Film Victoria Erwin Rado Award for Best Australian Short Film – $3000
- Best Fiction, Documentary,Animation and Experimental Short Films – $3000 each
- Best Student Production – $3000
- Nova Cinemas Award for Creative Excellence in an Australian Short Film – $3000
- Panavision Best Australian Achievement in Cinematography – $1000 + $5000 in-kind
- Australian Writer’s Guild Award for best MIFF Short Screenplay – $1000
- Avid Technology Best Australian Achievement in Editing – $1000 + $2,500 in-kind
- Shannon’s Way Human Rights Award – $1000
