Today's Highlights

As MIFF chugs into mid-week, and punters pause to reappraise their scattered schedules, the cinematic delights continue unabated. Here are some of today's highlights:

Get your Rasta on with Bob Marley: Freedom Road and The Upsetter: The Life and Music of Lee "Scratch" Perry (7.00pm at Kino), and then head over to the Coopers Festival Louge where the night has been given over to a livication to Reggae.

If you're looking for a different kind of perception changing experience, check out Guy Sherwin: Cinema of Perception, Cinema of Performance for a blast of conceptual cinema, introduced by the filmmaker himself. (5.00pm at ACMI)

In a quality of selection of Romanian cinema, a stand-out is the work of Cristian Nemescu – a director who was tragically killed in a car accident in 2006. Three of the director's lively shorts are showing today in the aptly named Crisitan Nemescu Shorts package. (5.00pm at Kino)

Try a taste of the Border Patrol spotlight with Salt of This Sea, an exploration of the disenfranchisement of Palestinians born outside Israel. (5.00pm at Forum)

Come along to the Rooftop Cinema for Melbourne Citymission charity screening of Young @ Heart (Rooftop Cinema Level 6, 252 Swanston St. doors open 6pm film at 7pm). Help raise money for homelessness and enjoy a BBQ, mulled wine and yummy hot chocolate to keep the cold at bay! Free beanie for everyone who attends!

Coming up – Lionel Rose in Town

World champion boxer, Australian of the Year, and a musician with No. 1 hits – Lionel Rose is a force to be reckoned with. This Saturday he comes to Melbourne to participate in a Q&A after a screening of the biopic about his triumph against the odds, Lionel (Saturday 2 August 5.00pm at ACMI). Also joining him will be Lionel director Edward Martin and producer Lizette Atkins.
