Today's Highlights

With the final days of MIFF swiftly falling away like autumn leaves on the wind of a hackneyed analogy, it's time to get down to MIFF and get your fill of quality world cinema while you still can. Some highlights:

Special Events

Australian feature Men's Group – about the relationship developing between six men in a support group – will introduce the screening this evening. (5.15pm at ACMI)

Director Julian Cole introduces his documentary film about avant garde art duo Gilbert Prousch and George Passmore, With Gilbert & George, with a Q&A to follow the screening. (7.15pm at ACMI)

Other Highlights

A tale of revenge and redemption, Revanche follows an ex-con whose frustration leads him right back into a life of crime when he commits a botched bank job in a backwater town. (9.30pm at Greater Union)

After the death of his father, a 16-year-old boy tries to balance his responsibilities to his family and his own sporting ambitions in the Australian feature Playing for Charlie. (5.15pm at Greater Union)

Mixing heavy metal doco with anthropology, Global Metal takes a look at the impact metal has had on cultures around the world – and at the culturally inflected variations on metal that have spung up in these areas. (7.15pm at Greater Union)

An evocative slice of 20th century history, Revue is a collection of Soviet newsreel propaganda footage from the 50s and 60s; a timely reminder of the power of media. (9.30pm at Greater Union)
