After 15 years of residing on Johnston Street, Fitzroy, MIFF’s access to the Erwin Rado Theatre expired at the end of 2007. MIFF has established a Building Fund to ensure that the Erwin Rado’s theatrette-style screening facilities can be established and maintained to a high standard within a new facility that provides adequate office accommodation for the Festival’s year-round operations. MIFF’s Building Fund aims to raise $500,000 over five years to secure permanent headquarters and financial security. The Board of Filmfest Ltd is inviting anyone to make a tax-deductible donation to the Melbourne Film Festival Fund for the new building. All donors will be inscribed on a ‘credits’ plaque to be installed in the new building when completed.

The MTC, the MSO, the NGV, ACCA , ACMI , The Australian Ballet, all the major cultural institutions in this city have a place to call their own, - and so they should, it’s impossible to deliver a world class event from temporary accommodation. I’ve just returned from an African film festival in Burkina Faso, almost the worlds poorest country; even it had a home, complete with a cinematheque." - said Festival Executive Director, Richard Moore.
